Thanks to Channel 5 news and the fact that Ol'Ned Pepper was in charge of the TV remote, we discovered the Hillbank Superformance Showroom in Irvine. What a find it was... at least for the 14 corvettes that joined in on the run!
Hillbank Motor Corporation is one of the oldest, largest and most experienced suppliers of Superformance products. Superformance are leaders in the field of specialty constructed reproductions and continuation race cars of the 1960's producing the finest factory built rolling chassis available.
Superformance has years of experience and has earned a reputation for the authenticity, quality, and craftsmanship and attention to the detail having distributed more than 4,000 component vehicles world-wide resulting in 1,000's of satisfied customers. The Superformance MKII-FIA, Slab Side and MKIII products are licensed by Carroll Shelby, the GT40 by Safir and the Corvette Grand Sport by GM. These license agreements add value to your investment down the road. Only new high quality components are used in construction and as a factory assembled component vehicle you are ensured continuity and consistency of build. Superformance replica's are track proven and street driven.
Hillbank is home to all the Shelby Cobra's from the awe-inspiring 427S/CC, 289, FIA and Slab-Side Cobra's to the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX9000, the American World Champion winning car. The showroom was dominated by Shelby Cobra's.
However, to many SWC members, the highlight of the morning was the three Duntov Grand Sports on display. These cars have been painstakingly manufactured to replicate the original molds and chassis of the 1963 Duntov road racing Grand Sport.
The Corvette Grand Sport originally raced with several different engines and Borg Warner T-10 4 speed Manual transmissions. In its racing debut early in 1963, the car sported a production 360 HP, 327 CID fuel injected motor and a "stock" appearance. The most serious factory engine was a 377 cubic inch displacement, all-aluminum smallblock with four Weber sidedraft carburetors, rated 550 hp (410 kW) at 6400 rpm.
Superformance has built our chassis in such a way to allow the engines and transmissions of the past or to accommodate any of the newer LS-series of engines and transmissions from gm performance parts.
Our run concluded with lunch at Mimi's Cafe on Lake Forest in Irvine and lots of conversation about all that we had seen! Join us for the next up and coming run or should I say "float" in a Duffy boat with Hank Landsberg leading the way! This will follow the August 13th meeting.
